Totally fair. You get to have preferences about your own voice.
Here are your options:
Embrace it
Vocal fry is a normal part of speech. It shows up in relaxed, natural delivery. And natural delivery often reads as intimate and human.
Work with it
If you’re recording and the fry is distracting to you, small production tweaks go a long way:
Use a mic that flatters lower frequencies (some emphasize vocal fry more than others).
Adjust mic distance. Too close can exaggerate texture.
Light EQ or compression can help emphasize the qualities you want to keep and remove the parts you don’t.
Adjust your delivery
Give yourself more breath support by using shorter sentences and taking nice, big, juicy breaths before you start talking.
Vary your pitch. Many people tend to lower their pitch at the end of sentences. Picture your pitch like the arc of baseball being hit high into the outfield. Instead of letting your sentences land on the field near third base, try hitting a pop fly and pitching them upward. Go Jays!
Ignore all of this
Most people are not listening as closely as you think they are.
Anyone who’s spending time picking apart another person’s voice is wasting their own.
